The Path to World Peace: A Bahá’í Perspective

Friday, Feb 16 • 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM

Discussion with Augusto Lopez-Claros, Executive Director and Chair of the Global Governance Forum

Bahá’í House of Worship’s Welcome Center Viewing Room
112 Linden Ave., Wilmette

The contemporary crises faced by humanity require a new kind of international agreement.

  • One which will prevent accelerating climate change from ruining the world for future generations, deescalate the high levels of nationalism which risk precipitating further global conflicts, and address economic and social inequities which could undermine the basis of democracy and good governance.
  • One which will remove the possibility of the use of nuclear weapons and place global security on international agreements securing freedom and democracy for all nations rather than on the military preparedness of individual states.
  • What are the institutional and moral requirements for a lasting peace that will allow the inauguration of a new stage in human development? Can one see positive forces on the horizon that suggest that world peace is attainable within our lifetimes?

Augusto Lopez Claros is Executive Director and Chair of the Global Governance Forum. He has over 30 years of experience as an international economist in international organizations, including most recently at the World Bank.
