DETAILS: The New Trier Multifaith Alliance hosted its popular, annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service on Tuesday, November 21, 2022, at 7:30 pm, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2727 Lake Ave. in Wilmette.

As always, an interfaith choir and representatives of various faith communities led attendees in music, prayer and thanksgiving. This year, NTMA was excited to introduce keynote remarks made by Tahera Ahmad, Northwestern University’s Associate Chaplain and Director of Interfaith Engagement.

The service was open to the general public and as always was offered free of charge. Light refreshments were served following the service. In keeping with the Alliance members’ mission for social action, the New Trier Township Food Pantry wast the beneficiary of a free-will collection.

NTMA Workshop at the
Parliament of World’s Religions

Friday, August 18
8:00 to 9:30 a.m.
Room E266
McCormick Place, Lakeside Center
Chicago, Illinois

NTMA was selected as a presenter at the forthcoming 2023 Parliament of the World’s Religions (PoWR). The Parliament of the World’s Religions features impact makers in faith-based activism, scholarship, and community and the successful organizations they support – worldwide.

NTMA hosted a workshop in the track, “Faith & Interfaith Understanding.” During this workshop, titled “Community Based Multifaith Organizations,” NTMA shared best practices and solicited new ideas for multifaith alliances. A panel of NTMA member representatives presented an overview of our organization; its programs and history, and ideas on how others may foster similar activities. In an informal workshop setting, NTMA encouraged other organizers in faith communities to provide best practices and stories of their successes. We hope those communities not yet “allied” will be inspired to take action, as well.

The Parliament of the World’s Religions, modeled after the 1893 event of the same name held in Chicago during the World’s Fair has been hailed as the world’s premier interfaith gathering since its centenary revival in Chicago in 1993.

Parliament presenters were featured in a five-day convening held at the Lakeside Center of McCormick Place in Chicago this August 14 – 18.
